The Polish germplasm collection of Nicotiana tabacum was started in the 1920s. Up to now, more than eight hundred accessions originating from different regions world have been gathered collection. It includes valuable breeding lines and obsolete cultivars, among them cytoplasmic male-sterile lines. Numerous cultivars are rich sources features desired tobacco breeding. Therefore, continually characterised terms their various features, one most important which is disease resistance. Much research being done explain nature resistance its genetic basis. Moreover, with good agronomic characteristics used wide hybridisation, recipients genes wild species or genetically modified transgenes conditioning biological diversity also allows a proper selection plant material for pathogen studies, while large number facilitates into conditions long seed storage. examples use breeding, specifically resistance, presented this paper.
